When I was in high school I played volleyball year around. What one might call, competitive volleyball or club. The thing is though, I'm not much of a competitive person so I was more focused on making sure my hair was cute and my ribbons matched my uniform. I also really liked all the eating between games at tournaments. (Good thing I was playing year around!) One of the girls I played with at my high school and my club team had the BEST treat she would bring. Most of you are probably familiar with muddy buddies, but we called it people chow. Fast forward to 2013 and the the last craze I've seen on pinterest - alternative recipes for the tried and true muddy buddies! I made my first attempt last month when I brought this churro flavor to share on Superbowl Sunday.
Now I read online that these cinnamon chips are somewhat of a special items. Some people said they had to order them online, others said they were only available during the holidays. Luckily, I live in Sacramento and there are a lot of grocery stores to choose from. I've managed to find them on two occasions at a larger Safeway. Don't be discouraged if you don't find them right away and of course you can always order them online!
And what you're really waiting for... the recipe!
- 9 cups rice Chex cereal
- 3 cups cinnamon chips
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Pour Chex cereal into a bowl. Set aside. Combine sugars and cinnamon in another small bowl. Set aside.
In a microwavable bowl, melt the cinnamon chips. Heat for 1 minute then stir. Heat for an additional 30 seconds. Stir. Continue with additional 30 seconds until completely melted. Pour melted cinnamon chips over the cereal. Stir until cereal is well coated.
Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Toss to coat. Pour out the cereal onto a cookie sheet. Continue to sprinkle and toss the cereal with the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
