St. Patrick's Day Count Down: DIY Glitter Shoes

Glitter shoes are all the rage.  I know that, you know that, but I've never been able to justify buying myself a pair.  Even when I've found them on sale at Marshall's.  A statement shoe like that can only be worn every once in awhile and I'm not good at that kind of thing.  I usually own only 3 or 4 pairs of shoes at a time and wear them TO DEATH, but awhile ago I saw this DIY on We Are Not Martha...  I had thought about doing it, but the upcoming holiday seemed like the perfect test run!

I already had all these items in my craft arsenal, except for the clear glaze spray which I picked up at my local JoAnn's store.  I took one pair of those previously mentioned worn out flats and turned them into a pretty, glittery pair of party shoes!  All you'll need is: mod podge, glitter, a foam brush, clear spray glaze and a pair of shoes.  I've seen people around the world wide web glitter up some heels too!  Since I plan on walking around San Francisco all day Saturday I needed my most comfortable pair of walking shoes.  Not heels this time...

To make these awesome shoes it's really simple.  Mix a heaping amount of glitter into the mod podge.  I added a little more after each application.  I think if my glitter wasn't so fine it would have sped up the process so keep that in mind when you purchase yours.  To get full coverage and cover up the old shoes it took me four layers.  I worked on mine while catching up on the DVR.  It takes about an hour for each application to dry and after the last one dried I sprayed them with the glaze outside the house.
